The Drew Jones Teaching Kitchen, named in honor of the late Drew Jones, is a vibrant addition to the Ruston Farmers Market, made possible by a generous grant from the Ruston Lincoln Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB).

Opened on May 28th, 2024, this kitchen embodies Drew’s legacy of dedication to our community. It serves as a hub for culinary education, offering a range of classes from hands-on cooking workshops to free educational sessions.

Drew’s unwavering commitment to local food and community spirit continues to inspire us. Here, we celebrate his vision by providing a space for learning, creativity, and connection. Join us and be part of Drew’s enduring legacy through our classes and events.

Profiteroles Made Easy

Join us on March 19th from 6–8 PM for Profiteroles Made Easy with Katie Peters! This hands-on class will guide participants through the process of making classic profiteroles from scratch, perfect for anyone looking to build confidence with pastry techniques.

 

Katie will demonstrate how to prepare light and airy choux pastry, fill and assemble profiteroles, and finish them with simple yet elegant toppings. Participants will learn approachable techniques and tips they can use at home to recreate this timeless dessert.

Easter Cupcakes 
4 Kids

Join us for a fun and creative Easter Cupcake Decorating 4 Kids on March 24th from 6–8 PM! This hands-on class is perfect for kids ages 6 and up and will be led by RFM vendor Harleigh from Lucky Bites.

 

Kids will decorate a variety of cupcakes, explore their creativity, and leave with their own beautifully decorated treats to enjoy or share. No baking or decorating experience needed, just bring your imagination! This class is the perfect mix of springtime fun, creativity, and lots of sweetness. 

Loaded Potato Soup Made Simple

Join us on March 26th from 6–8 PM for Loaded  Potato Made Simple with Camdyn Slade! This hands-on class will focus on creating a rich, comforting soup packed with classic loaded potato flavors.

 

Camdyn will walk participants through building layers of flavor, achieving the perfect creamy texture, and finishing the soup with delicious toppings. Along the way, you’ll pick up practical cooking tips and techniques you can use to recreate this cozy favorite at home.

Intro To Sourdough

Join us on April 2nd from 6–8 PM for Intro to Sourdough at the Drew Jones Teaching Kitchen, led by RFM vendor Jadee’s Sourdough!

In this beginner-friendly class, Jadee will walk participants through the fundamentals of sourdough baking, including how to care for and maintain a starter, mix dough, and understand the fermentation process. She’ll also share helpful tips and simple techniques to make sourdough baking approachable at home.​ 

 

Participants will leave with new knowledge, practical tips, and the confidence to begin their own sourdough journey!

Crawfish Étouffée Made Simple

Join us on April 9th from 6–8 PM for Crawfish Étouffée Made Simple at the Drew Jones Teaching Kitchen, led by Amanda Finley!

In this hands-on class, Amanda will guide participants through making a rich and flavorful crawfish étouffée, from building a base with the Cajun “holy trinity” to creating a simple roux and finishing the dish with tender crawfish and bold seasoning. You’ll learn helpful techniques and tips to make this Louisiana classic easy to recreate at home.

Pasta From Scratch

Join us on April 16th from 6–8 PM for Pasta from Scratch at the Drew Jones Teaching Kitchen, led by Rachel Howard!

In this hands-on class, Rachel will guide participants through mixing, kneading, and rolling fresh pasta dough while sharing tips for achieving the perfect texture every time. You’ll learn the basics of shaping pasta and preparing it for cooking at home.

Participants will enjoy tasting freshly made pasta during the class and will also take home pasta they’ve made to cook and enjoy later. Leave with new skills, confidence in homemade pasta, and a fun kitchen skill you can recreate anytime.

Girl Scout Cookies Cake 101

Join us on April 23rd from 6–8 PM for Girl Scout Cookie Cake Decorating at the Drew Jones Teaching Kitchen, led by Aileen from Aileen’s Sweet Shop!

In this fun, hands-on class, Aileen will guide participants through decorating a cake using everyone’s favorite Girl Scout cookies. You’ll learn simple decorating techniques and creative ways to incorporate cookies into your design.

Participants will decorate their own cake during the class and take it home to enjoy and share. Leave with new skills and a sweet, cookie-covered creation!

Taste of Nepal- Momo Making .png

Taste of Nepal: Momo Making

Join us on April 9th from 6–8 PM for Taste of Nepal: Momo Making at the Drew Jones Teaching Kitchen!

In this hands-on class, participants will learn how to make traditional Nepali momos from scratch—from preparing the dough to crafting flavorful fillings and mastering classic folding techniques. You’ll also explore proper steaming methods and simple accompaniments, including a delicious dipping sauce. Whether you’re new to dumpling-making or looking to refine your skills, this class will give you the confidence to recreate this beloved Himalayan dish at home.
