Fried Green Tomatoes

  • 2 large green tomatoes sliced 1/4 in thick
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup oil (or Crisco if you have it), may need more according to tomatoes

The Breading

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup corn meal
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Mix all together for breading


Slice green tomatoes; dip each slice in beaten eggs then in breading. Get oil good and hot, then turn oil down to medium heat. Place tomatoes face down in oil; get golden brown, piercing tomatoes while frying with fork. Do this for each slice. Pick up each tomato with a spatula, to drain oil. Place each tomato slice on paper towel to drain of grease. Serve with hot corn bread, fried corn and pinto beans.
